Between 1870-1890, Iancu Marghiloman wins in a game of cards the domain with a lake and a mansion nearby Buzăului. His son, Alexandru Marghiloman, an important politician of his times, builds here between 1883- 1887, a true residential complex, comissioning the well-known French architect Paul Gottereau. Situated in the center of a large dendrological park, the manor is also known as Villa Albatros (Seagull). Alongside there are other annex buildings such as stables - the ex-prime minister having one of the most important horse breeding studs of the country.

After the death of Alexandru Marghioman, the park and the domain started slowly decaying. In 1947, the park is reclaimed by the State and becomes an open public park. After 1948, Vila Albatros was converted by the State in CAP warehouse, leading to its ruin, demise and being abandoned in 1985. Nowadays the villa is undergoing a restoration process, following which, it would house the future “Alexandru Marghiloman” Cultural Center.
